After having handled the final of the previous edition two years ago, USA - Mexico 2-4,  in the recent times Aguilar has made further impressive steps in his international career. Selected for FIFA Confederations Cup one month ago, he was in charge of two group stage matches, showing overall good performances.  A FIFA referee from 2001, Aguilar was already called  by FIFA for 2010 WC in South Africa, but working only as fourth official.  In this edition of the Gold Cup, he has already officiated a group stage match (Mexico - Canada 2-0) and a quarterfinal (Mexico - Trinidad & Tobago 1-0).
